The Aviation

Makes 1 drink.

This recipe is adapted from the book Speakeasy. If you’ve never tried Luxardo maraschino cherry liqueur, you’re seriously missing out. It’s a far cry from the bright, chemical-sweet cherries we’re used to. This liqueur and the cherries that come soaked in it are dark, spicy, and complex. If you can’t find them in your local liquor store, check Amazon!

1 1/2 ounces (3 Tbs.) gin
1 ounce (2 Tbs.) freshly squeezed lemon juice
1/4 ounce (1 1/2 tsp.) Luxardo maraschino cherry liqueur
1/4 ounce (1 1/2 tsp.) simple syrup
1 dash Angostura bitters
1 lemon wheel (for garnish)
1 Luxardo cherry (for garnish)

Pour gin, lemon juice, maraschino liqueur, and simple syrup into a cocktail shaker. Add large ice cubes and shake vigorously. Strain into a chilled martini glass. Add the bitters and garnish with lemon and cherry.
