Obligatory old school photo of mom, Sharon, and me. I don’t care what my future children look like so long as they have Sharon’s legs.
Please pardon our delay in announcing a winner. Maggy’s been on vacation and I’ve been in FL helping my parents move from their home of 35 years to a retirement facility. Our KitchenAid “Cook for Mom” winner is #167 Angie who says, “Having lost my mother-in-law and own mother in recent years, I will be reflecting on my happy memories of both of them. I will also enjoy basking in the love I will receive from my two girls and husband.” Congratulations!
We aren’t much of a gift-giving family, not at least in the ‘box, wrapping paper and bow’ sense. For us celebrations are about the food and the people and long-winded cards that wax poetic about our love and respect for one another. We used to do presents, but then the company and the menu were so superior (especially when we were old enough to add a splash of wine to the mix) that those earrings, blouses, and calendars just didn’t add that much to the feel of the event anymore. So we long ago decided to put all our effort (and money) into food lovingly prepared, drinks carefully selected, tables beautifully laid, music painstakingly chosen, and the moment we should share together.
On Mother’s Day, more than on any other special day, we do this for our mother because she is so worth it. She has the most generous spirit and giving heart of anyone I know. There is no person better at celebrating you than Pam Anderson. She cheers the loudest, supports the strongest, offers the most, gives the biggest. Not just to us, but to everyone in her life. So on this day, we do for her. And truth be told, she’d be happy with a grilled cheese, a bowl of homemade tomato soup and a cold craft beer, because that’s who she is. Though she is a great lover of memorable food, for her it’s far more about the moment than the dish itself. Her style is unpretentious and all-inclusive and I believe this is the greatest thing I have absorbed from all my years in her presence.
This year, we are excited to be working with KitchenAid on a special Mother’s Day series called, “Cook for Mom.” We know a lot of you will be looking for menu inspiration this week as you plan what to cook for your mom or the mother figure in your life.
Here’s the menu that mom and I created together. Today, we’re sharing the recipe for Cornmeal-Scallion Waffles with Caramel Corn and Maple Syrup and we’ll be posting the rest of the recipes throughout the week!
Raspberry Ice Bellinis
Asparagus Salad “Nests”
Cornmeal-Scallion Waffles with Caramel Corn and Maple Syrup
Strawberry-Rhubarb Galette with Whipped Cream
To help us celebrate, KitchenAid is giving away all three of the following appliances we used to one lucky winner! I think we all know that there’s no better stand mixer out there. Hands down. After using a far inferior blender for years, this is without doubt the Rolls Royce of blenders. And that waffle iron? The best. It lets you make two waffles at once!
KitchenAid Raspberry Ice 5 quart Stand Mixer
KitchenAid ‘Cook for the Cure’ Edition Pink 5-Speed Blender
KitchenAid Pro Line Black Waffle Iron
To enter, just leave a comment telling us what you’re doing for Mother’s Day this year! Giveaway closes on Friday, May 11 at 9PM EST.
Happy Mother’s Day to all the Mom’s out there!
My mom is going out of town this week to have some time alone to write so I’m going to send her off with a little care package for mother’s day.
I haven’t been able to spend mothers day with my mother for a two years since I moved. This year I’m going to take her out to dinner and walk around the city and take her shopping [:
I’m making mom a nice dinner at home since she’ll be recovering from surgery. Crossing my fingers she’ll be out of the hospital! Otherwise, plan on making her stay as pleasant and hopefully as short as possible
I really don’t know what we will be doing for Mother’s Day. My hubby is stationed in Korea so I think my 5 kids (ages 6,5,3,1 and baby in uterus) will be taking me out to eat at a restaurant of their choosing =). We will probably go for lunch after church and pray the lines won’t be terribly long.
I’m making my mom’s favorite cheesecake from George Stella’s cookbook…even though it’s low-carb and uses Splenda, it’s still delicious!
My dear mom passed away four years ago, so I’ll be visiting her grave with a bouquet of flowers.
My mother lives with me, so we’ll be cooking a large feast together, and hosting a family gathering.
She doesn’t know I bought her the larger TV she’s been wanting.
I sent my Mom flowers for Mother’s Day. My husband is taking this Mom to Vermont camping for a long weekend. There is no place I would rather be than camping in Vermont. I will celebrate with my kids next weekend. They understand my Vermont Obsession.
Spending time with my son, my mother, and my memories of my grandmother and mother-in-law
I lost my Mom several years ago. So, after taking flowers to the cemetery, I’m going to dinner with my dear neighbor. We’re both Moms and we’re going to a restaurant where Moms eat free. We’ll split the cost of the dinner we pay for. It should be a very nice day!
We have started the tradition of canoeing down the Ouiska Chitta River on Mother’s Day- hopefully we won’t be rained out this year!
My 2 yr old, 3 yr old, and I will be spending time with my Mom on Sunday while my husband travels out of town to be with his Mom.
Headed to the beach and our family’s (but ESP. Mom and grandma’s) gave seafood restaurant. Can’t wait for that delish pecan crusted flounder!
Our eight year old dauhgter, Faith, and I will prepare breakfast in bed for Mom. Faith’s signature scrambled eggs, bacon and toast and a cup of decaf blueberry coffee. After church our twelve yr. son, Isaac, and I will prepare fried chicken, potatoes and a salad. Mom will be pampered!!
Today is the “special” day I give thanks for the joys I’ve been blessed with in being a Mom.
Thinking back to before children, a long time ago, I can’t really recall why I wanted children, but just knew it was for me. How wonderful the whole adventure has been!
So I thank my mom, who had 7 children and just got to celebrate her 90th birthday with us, her grand kids and 4 great grand kids. I thank my 3 now adult kids, who have made my life richer and the 4 grandkids who make me laugh and keep me young at heart with each passing year! Happy Mother’s Day to Every Mother.
Spending time with my precious boys and hubby.
My mom is a nurse practitioner and works night shifts. To make things a little easier on her, I usually drive her to/fro work. She is scheudled to work this Saturday to Sunday, so I plan to pick her up from work and bring her home to a breakfast table filld with freshly made blini (Russian crepes) and homemade strawberry preserves – one of her favorite treats! Then, I’ll tuck her in so she could sleep and regain strength after two consecutive nights of hard work. 🙂 Once she wakes up, I plan to take her to a park to enjoy a lovely picnic with my grandmother! Together we have always been the three muskateers… they are my everything – the best mothers and friends I could have ever dreamed of!
Going to be having brunch in Chicago on Sunday, alas without my mom! I’ll probably have pancakes or waffles.
It’s going to be a great Mother’s Day for us! First on the agenda, on Sunday morning, my husband, my children, my parents & siblings & in-laws will attend church . My brother is a youth pastor and he will be preaching to the main congregation for the first time. That will definitely be so special for us all and I know my mother will feel so blessed! My mother is my role model and I feel so blessed to have her as my mother. Also, so proud of my bro! Then after the service, we all will be eating lunch at Sweet Tomatoes . Afterwards, we’ll gather at my parents’ house and present gifts and eat dessert. I’m thinking about baking a apple scrambled cobbler. Quick but delicious dessert! Hope my younger sister makes cupcakes. She uses organic products and makes the best vanilla with cinnamon frosting cupcakes! Have a happy & blessed Mother’s day everyone!
I’m looking forward to being pampered this one day in the year. I can’t wait for breakfast prepared by the kids and my husband. And then we’re taking out my mom for dinner so that we can both take the day off!
My mother and I will be going to lunch, then to the movies to see Chimpanzee.
We’re actually celebrating TWO holidays on Sunday! It’s my husband’s 30th birthday, as well as Mother’s Day. The only thing I can think of is to have a crawfish boil. 🙂
This year we (my husband, 2 kids, and I) are going to a big family party at my aunt and uncle’s house to celebrate all of the moms in our large extended family as well as several birthdays. Best of all, everyone loves to cook and eat GREAT food.
We live in a very small town. So, for Mother’s Day, we’re traveling to a nearby big city for shopping and a lunch out with our son! We can’t wait!
Spending time and eating great food with my husband and three of my four sons. The other son is an out of town college student , so I’ll have to make do with a phone call.
I am going to help my mother clean and organize her basement this weekend. I’m not sure what we will be cooking.
Me and my mommy girlfriends all get together and go out to dinner, after spending the early part of the day with our husbands & kids.
we’re making brunch for my mother-in-law. will miss being with my mom, though!
I will be a few days late, but I plan to take my mother out for dinner, but bake her favorite dessert for afterwards!
Going to my mom’s house to celebrate with my parents, sister, grandma and aunts and uncles. Should be a fun time!!
We’ll be having a cookout! The weather is supposed to be beautiful here in Maryland and my mother wants to have something simple to celebrate her day.
I live in alaska and my mom lives in Missouri, so we will be enjoying technology and spending time together through Face Time! I wish I could be with my mom – she is the most amazing woman!
Enjoying the day with family , having a cook out and then relaxing after ….having some me time!
We are beginning the day at church, then lunch out with my husband and kids, and finishing the day off with my niece’s 3rd birthday party. The best part will be heading to CA via road trip the next morning!!!
What an AMAZING giveaway! Oh how I love that raspberry mixer!!! I will spend mother’s day with my mom (&dad) and my hubby and daughter – just having fun and being together followed by dinner out!
We are spending the actual day with my husband’s mom bringing over some yummy homemade pastries for brunch. Then the next week we will be driving to my mother’s house up north and spending the week with her. With both mothers we are bringing over a gardening basket we made. Both of our moms love gardening so we always put together something fun and spring filled for them as a gift.
I’m making a little brunch, Chicken Waldorf salad. Yours looks yummy! Thanks so much for the chance 🙂
I’m taking my mom on a little road trip to see her mother! Three generations! Celebrating together! 🙂

My mother and I will be doing our 1st (hopefully this will become a tradition every year) Mother’s Day “Moms Only” brunch! I’m treating her to the food and she’s treating me to a mani/pedi afterwards. I know my husband and kids have a suprise for both of us so we’ll see what they are up to after that. I also picked her up a travel coffee mug with my boys on it and a giftcard to her favorite coffee place.
Best of luck to all on this amazing giveaway!
We are traveling 3 hours with our two children to be with both my mother and my husband’s mother.
