Congratulations to our giveaway winner, Erin who won the KitchenAid Crystal Blue Diamond Blender. The dishes that define her as a cook are dirt bars and macaroni and cheese!
As we crossed into 2015, we knew three things were sure to happen—Maggy’s baby would be born, our mother/grandmother would die, and our book—Three Many Cooks: One Mom, Two Daughters, Their Shared Story of Food, Faith, and Family—would be published. Dashiell Collins Keet was born on January 16th, Della Ruth Skipper died on March 18th, and our book will hit the shelves next week on April 14th.
This book is really the story of who we are, the food and the people we love, and what cooking has come to mean for us and our communities. We have a lot to say about our book, but on this day, we’ll let the video trailer speak for itself. A big, heartfelt thank you to our friends Deb and Rod Smith of SmithBites for so beautifully filming and producing it.
You can buy the book here: Amazon, Barnes and Noble, or on IndieBound.
To celebrate the launch of our book, KitchenAid is giving away a Crystal Blue Diamond Blender which is my favorite, most used KitchenAid appliance (Sharon’s is the Pro Line Stand Mixer and Mom’s is the Pro Line Tea Kettle.) We love the Crystal Blue color, particularly because it matches our book jacket! To enter, just tell us: What’s the dish that defines you as a cook? What are you best known for? Giveaway ends Tuesday, April 14 at 12:00 PM EST!

I am a baker, so depending on the audience, depends on the baked good. Lemon cake, baguettes, rye bread, chocolate cake, chocolate chip cookies. Right now, I am working on perfecting my grandma’s recipes. Thanks for the blog. Love it and I bought the book for the library I work for.
Robin Lovelady says
I am defined by my cooking of BURGERS, homemade buns and the eternal quest for the “perfect” patty and accoutrements (hee, hee, I said accoutrements). Lately, I am a big fan of the ground pork combo patty topped with “Piquillo NOT Pimento” Cheese and bacon served on a bacon grease/butter brushed homemade bun. Hello, cardiologists everywhere!!!! But it is sooooo tasty!

my Oso buco is to die for! Been a hit for ever with friends and family. That does not define me, I define me!

I have several things that I make often, but my family knows me best for experimenting with new recipes. If it disappears quickly, I know it was good. If someone says “You can make that again!” I know it was great!

JJ’s World Famous Baked Beans….yep, that’s what my family always requests. No matter the setting or menu (a few exceptions), my baked beans fit in. Fish fry/beans, Cookout/beans, Ham supper/beans, Steak dinner/beans, Cold Cut lunchean/beans. Asian, Italian, and Mexican cuisine/NO beans, just a fabulous fruit salad.

Sandra jones says
Well, I am someone who is definitely NOT known for my culinary skills (my husband famously says “if you can’t smell burning, we’re having salad”! When I was forced to make something for a work’s buffet and made lemon drizzle cake it went down a storm and everyone said how lovely it was. I have to hang on to this and call it my “specialty” as it is really the only thing I can make with confidence!!
Jenny Hartin says
I’m known for a few things – but macaroni and cheese is a top one. Congratulations on the book!
