Thanks to random.org, we’ve chosen 3 winners–Bonnie, Pat, and Nancy–all who’ve been notified and are just a few days away from receiving a beautiful holiday wreath.
My Dad just turned 86 this past Sunday. He and Mom live in a quiet friendly neighborhood on Deer Point Lake in Panama City, FL, nearly 1300 miles from me. MapQuest says it’s a 20 plus hour drive.
Mom and Dad have had their share of health issues these last couple of years and aren’t as active in the kitchen as they used to be. That’s why I’m grateful they have nice neighbors. At least two or three times a week, Sharon and Norm from down the street bring supper. Mom has dubbed them her “Meals on Wheels.”
If my parents didn’t have friends who brought them regular meals, they’d for sure be needing a little help from Meals on Wheels Association of America (MOWAA) the oldest and largest national organization whose mission is to eliminate hunger among seniors. Lindsay Olives believes in MOWAA too and are donating proceeds from their Handmade Olive Branch Holiday Wreaths to this worthy organization.
Lindsay Olives has also given us three holiday wreaths to give away this season. Made from olive, bay, and eucalyptus branches, they can be hung on an interior or exterior door or used as a table decoration as seen above. To enter this contest, simply complete the following statement: this holiday season I will do my part for people in need by…
Posting deadline is this Friday, December 3rd at 6:00 PM Eastern Time. Winners will be announced by 9:00 AM Eastern Time on Monday, December 6th.
If you’re not one of the lucky winners, however, and would still like a wreath, they’re very reasonable—$30 for a 14-inch one, $35 for an 18-incher (plus shipping) with delivery until December 31, 2010. You can order at www.lindsayolives.com or call (800) 765-2029.
Let the responses begin!

I know I can’t win, but I’ll still take the challenge. This holiday season, I will do my part for people in need by participating in a program that houses homeless men in churches and synagogues during the winter months. This program provides shelter, but it also provides home-cooked meals, entertainment and fun, and fellowship. What it really does is reminds us that we’re a community–those experiencing homelessness and those who are not. It’s not us and them, we’re all in this together.

I know I can’t win either, but I’d like to join in the fun. I really want to connect with this homeless man and his dog that lives around the corner. He is there every day. I often give him cash, but that doesn’t go too far. I’d like to ask his name and find a way to do something more. He’s a nice guy, everyone in the neighborhood likes him.

I just finished tearing through the house in all my hiding places in closets and drawers. Tonight is our monthly block book party (Pam you were a guest at one time) and i’ve invited everyone to bring books they no longer want and a hand/body creme. We will wrap the cremes (along with some candies I picked up) and bring them down to the emergency womens shelter where by Christmas they expect to have 25 women. They also have a little library and with the way this group reads we’ll be able to restock their library with up to date books. It is amazing how many new bottles of cremes and body gloves i have, i am so happy to be sending them where they will be greatly appreciated and needed.

We are also planning a Christmas party for a group of girls and will ask for donations for the food center at our church.

We’ll be responding to other opportunities in our community as well, as there is much need here in the midwest.
These wreaths are beautiful. I sent the 18″ inch one to my stepdaughter in MN at Thanksgiving and she was thrilled to pieces! (Would love to have one myself…..!)

We will renew our commitment to donate money to our local food bank throughout the year. We also have fun donating new toys and gifts for children entering the foster system/ recovering from abuse and neglect in our county. Most service organizations appreciate donations year round, not only at the holidays, so everyone can feel good giving time, goods, or money any time of year. Peace and joy, y’all!
