Congratulations to Mandy, BreAnn, Grace, Amber, and Tammy, the winners of this competition!
If I had just checked the mailbox earlier on Lent Eve I would have seen Ree’s new book, The Pioneer Woman Cooks: Food from My Frontier, sooner. It arrived the night we’re supposed to empty our flour and sugar bins and use up all the excess butter to make (and overdose) on pancakes.
It was well past dinner when I gathered the mail and spied Ree’s book. Thankfully the dishes were done because once I started paging through the book that was it for the night.
The first picture that caught my eye was an incredibly well behaved bejeweled cat:
How did she get her so poised? Our Chloe would never stand for being decked out like that.
But it was her four-page Homemade Glazed Donut tutorial that made me stop. Why hadn’t I checked the mail sooner? Instead of pancakes I could have made doughnuts for dinner! It had all the same ingredients as pancakes– sugar, milk, eggs, butter, flour. Plus they’re fried, making them even more decadent for the day!
There’s another reason I should have fried up a batch of doughnuts last Tuesday night. As I later confessed on twitter, I have three weakness: potato chips, doughnuts, and a good stiff gin and tonic, and I believe we’re meant to enjoy our vices that night.
Gail of One Tough Cookie tweeted back asking if I planned to give up all three for Lent. At the time I didn’t commit, but I’m ready. Yes, I’ll give up potato chips. A reluctant yes to gin and tonics. But since I missed my shot at making doughnuts last Tuesday, I’ve allowed myself–at least today–a couple of Ree’s.
And having experienced Ree’s Homemade Glazed Doughnuts first hand, I think they’re pretty much the ultimate–pure featherlight delights, like warm Krispy Kremes rolling off the conveyer freshly showered with glaze.
Besides the perfect doughnut recipe, Ree’s new book, The Pioneer Woman Cooks: Food from My Frontier, consolidates all of your favorites from the site along with some brand new ones. (Photos too!)
There’s another reason to celebrate. Ree has generously offered Three Many Cooks five copies of her new book for a giveaway. And here’s the added incentive. Since the book isn’t officially available until March 12, five lucky winners will receive their copies a wee bit early.
To win one of the five copies of Ree’s new book, The Pioneer Woman Cooks: Food from My Frontier, simply tells us your food weakness(es). Giveaway ends Sunday March 4th at 9 PM ET and winners will be announced the next morning.
Enough! I’ve bared my soul now let’s hear from you.
What are my food weaknesses??? Hmmm…. Let’s see…cinnamin rolls topped with caramel icing and chopped pecans, ice cream, ice cream, and did I say ice cream!
Pasta! Pasta! Pasta! All Italian all the time.
Almost anything chocolate.
Salty snacks of all varieties!!
Oh, I have a lot of the same ones! A good g&t, lots of wine, potato chips, and I really can’t resist a good chocolate chip cookie. Or even a mediocre one.
My biggest weakness is chocolate. I need chocolate at least once a day. With coconut, raisins, apples, by itself. Ok, maybe more like 2 or 3 times a day…
coffee ice cream, sushi and peppermint mocha coffee creamer… the list could go on and on though.
Cinnamon rolls I cannot say no to!
Chips and dip…or crackers and dip…or really just any dip!
Spoons of peanut butter.
My food weekness – homemade cookies,
Black and white milk shakes.
And Twizzlers. I really love Twizzlers. 🙂
French fries and raw cookie dough are my food weaknesses. Now I’m craving both!
Oh, goodness. My food weaknesses are many and varied, but I think I’d have to say the top of list includes ice cream in any of its wonderful forms (milkshake? sundae? the faux-healthy froyo cousin?), my aunt’s homemade crumb cake, and fudgy brownies straight out of the oven. Oh yum!
Breads! I love toasts and bagels.
Ice Cream, peanut butter, coffee, and chocolate…Now I am hungry!
Good carrot cake with cream cheese frosting, bars of belgian chocolate and Alton Brown’s avocado and sardine sandwiches….yum
Any homemade baked good, especially cookies and right now mini eggs & eggies. Seeing them in the store right is torture.
Buttercream frosting. Oh, pretty much ANYTHING with buttercream frosting.
Classic margarita on the rocks with a salted rim, warm chocolate chip cookies, and just about any Mexican, Greek or Italian food!
Strangely enough one of my biggest food weaknesses is oatmeal. Anything with oatmeal. Cookies, crumbles, but mainly just as a breakfast food!
Fresh bread is my healthy eating buster. If I made doughnuts I am sure it would be brutal on me also. Now to figure out what occasion I can make doughnuts for?
I just love food…. all kinds of food, food, food, glorious food… if I had to pick one I couldn’t live w/o (my biggest weakness)… ice cream, any kind… can’t keep it in the house…. it calls my name, I don’t care how deeply I bury it… I still hear it!!!
My food weakness is homemade sweets. I find something on pinterest, I have all of the ingredients & within the hour I am enjoying something I should’ve never should’ve made.
Any facet of Mexican food. Nachos…fajitas…guacamole…enchiladas…chorizo…sopapillas…tres leches…
I obviously have a problem.
My biggest food weakness is chocolate…in any form. Cake, pudding, candy bar, you name it, I want it…all the time!
Mashed potatoes with good cream gravy…bring it on with a biscuit on the side to sop up every last little heavenly bit!!
Salt and vinegar potato chips, oreos, and ice cream. All bad stuff, but if any of it is around, I can’t always resist.
I’m pregnant right now – so I think everything is a craving. 🙂 But my particular weaknesses? Good pizza, white cake and steak.
Chocolate and coffee….:D
Macaroni cheese… I could eat an entire panful. Which is why I don’t make it often!
Lemon bars & coconut macaroons. Oh, and cheese, cheese, cheese!
My food weakness is… chocolate, chocolate and more chocolate.
Tacos…I could eat them everyday!
Chocolate, red wine, chocolate
Well, it used to be dark chocolate or coffee anything, but I’m pregnant so that changes the game. Now it’s anything with a sweet pudding or custard texture… flan, yogurt, custard pie, boston creme donuts, ….. going grocery shopping now!
I will start with any homemade bread (warm with melting butter – hmmm) add in chocolate – cookies, cakes ice cream and peanut butter (preferably with the chocolate!) Now, I am hungry… 🙂
Fritos and jarred queso. So shameful, I know. I don’t even allow them into my house except for once or twice a year.
Oh my. Anything with brown sugar or coffee. Preferably both!
mmmm. gummies from the bulk bin at the grocery store.
chocolate, ice cream, brownies, coffee… any combination!! 🙂
and anything with CHEESE!! 🙂
My biggest food weakness is homemade, fresh from the oven, chocolate chip cookies! I’m sure once I see Ree’s new cookbook and try the recipes, I’ll have more food to add to my weaknesses list!
I can’t pass up cookies!
Peanut butter!
Sweets – not all are created equal but homemade treats are hard to resist, and most things with cheese in the title. :).
I love hot crusty sourdough bread with a wonderful cheese with an amazing glass of wine!!
My weaknesses… Pasta…. really good, fresh, homemade preferred pasta. Homemade bread, rolls… I’m going into carb overload just typing these! And, cannoli!
Chips chips chips!
I’m a carb addict, breads, and I mean loves, not slices, rice, pasta, I don’t discriminate. 🙂
