Congratulations to Mandy, BreAnn, Grace, Amber, and Tammy, the winners of this competition!
If I had just checked the mailbox earlier on Lent Eve I would have seen Ree’s new book, The Pioneer Woman Cooks: Food from My Frontier, sooner. It arrived the night we’re supposed to empty our flour and sugar bins and use up all the excess butter to make (and overdose) on pancakes.
It was well past dinner when I gathered the mail and spied Ree’s book. Thankfully the dishes were done because once I started paging through the book that was it for the night.
The first picture that caught my eye was an incredibly well behaved bejeweled cat:
How did she get her so poised? Our Chloe would never stand for being decked out like that.
But it was her four-page Homemade Glazed Donut tutorial that made me stop. Why hadn’t I checked the mail sooner? Instead of pancakes I could have made doughnuts for dinner! It had all the same ingredients as pancakes– sugar, milk, eggs, butter, flour. Plus they’re fried, making them even more decadent for the day!
There’s another reason I should have fried up a batch of doughnuts last Tuesday night. As I later confessed on twitter, I have three weakness: potato chips, doughnuts, and a good stiff gin and tonic, and I believe we’re meant to enjoy our vices that night.
Gail of One Tough Cookie tweeted back asking if I planned to give up all three for Lent. At the time I didn’t commit, but I’m ready. Yes, I’ll give up potato chips. A reluctant yes to gin and tonics. But since I missed my shot at making doughnuts last Tuesday, I’ve allowed myself–at least today–a couple of Ree’s.
And having experienced Ree’s Homemade Glazed Doughnuts first hand, I think they’re pretty much the ultimate–pure featherlight delights, like warm Krispy Kremes rolling off the conveyer freshly showered with glaze.
Besides the perfect doughnut recipe, Ree’s new book, The Pioneer Woman Cooks: Food from My Frontier, consolidates all of your favorites from the site along with some brand new ones. (Photos too!)
There’s another reason to celebrate. Ree has generously offered Three Many Cooks five copies of her new book for a giveaway. And here’s the added incentive. Since the book isn’t officially available until March 12, five lucky winners will receive their copies a wee bit early.
To win one of the five copies of Ree’s new book, The Pioneer Woman Cooks: Food from My Frontier, simply tells us your food weakness(es). Giveaway ends Sunday March 4th at 9 PM ET and winners will be announced the next morning.
Enough! I’ve bared my soul now let’s hear from you.
Chocolate and pasta are my weaknesses
Texas sheet cake, with pecan or walnuts has been my weakness for years, but the past couple of years I’ve entered a protein phase. Give me Roast Beast, juicy and sweet – ripe off the bone! Nothing beats a good med-rare ribeye with carmelized onions.
ONE food weakness???!!! HA….anything carb-y unfortunately…pasta, potatoes…and GOOD bread(im from germany, so i am a bit of a bread snob)…
sigh
Anything chocolate or that is Mexican food related. Oh my goodness. I want both now!
I can’t have peanut butter in the house. I love to just eat it on a spoon and it is my one true food addiction.
Chips and salsa! With a Margarita too if I’m feeling naughty 🙂
My weakness would be potatoes… I LOVE THEM!
I would need an entire page to share my food weaknesses…but I am a sucker for homemade salsa and warm tortilla chips. Cannot refuse them, ever, especially when eating them with a marguerita on the rocks.
beef roast, mashed potatoes, gravy, and roasted carrots!! Perfect comfort food on a cool Sunday afternoon.
I love french fries!
I cannot stay away from a fresh cobbler…Blackberry, peach, apple, doesnt matter..YUMMY!
CARBS! any and all kinds! I am baaaaad!
Food, in general, is my weakness. But I have absolutely no will power over baked goods: doughnuts, pastry, cakes, cookies….
Anything with chocolate or cheese (but not both)!
Anything with chocolate and nuts!
I cave every time for the pecan rolls at the grocery store. I do not need to eat them but I can’t help it when I see them in the case!
I love any kind of pie & crave Milky Way cake!
I love fresh bread!!!! i could probably eat a whole loaf by my self.
Lately….goldfish & wine! Yes you can tell I’m a stay at home mom who cant control a fist full of goldfish as I walk by the cupboard and by the end of the day….well if you have kids at home, then you know why I list wine!! I would LOVE Ree’s book, because everythimg she cooks is ree-licious!!!
Good cheese, rustic bread and a glass of red wine.
Sweets! It never fails, if anything sugary, chocolatey, or gooey is around I cannot resist! It’s problem…
Cookies, my favorite sweet since I was a small girl. And cheese in almost any variety.
Anything with a peanut butter / chocolate combo I just can’t resist!
I don’t like to think of foods as “good” or “bad” anymore, as it has led to a lot of disordered eating for me! I really like steak and potatoes!
I would say potatoes
White cakes and cream cheese frosting is my downfall……I have been known to eat 1/2 a cake at one standing at the kitchen counter!
My sinful food? Well, good old pot roast with gravy, potatoes, and carrots.
I love desserts and they love me! But in order to stay in my skinny jeans, I can turn most of them down. The ONE dessert I simply CANNOT turn down is Ree Drummond’s Cinnamon Rolls! They are TO DIE FOR!!! They’re not just for breakfast! So you see, I need her cookbook. I need more Ree!!
My weakness is creamcheese. Love it so much I can have it if I am craving sweet or salty!!
French Fries…Just started trying to get in shape by going to the gym and eating better. By choice also eating at home more…fast food is becoming a fading temptation…Would love Ree’s new book…
Doughnuts
Fried chicken is my biggest weakness, definitely warm, fresh bread, and a brand new bag of doritos.
Chocolate, chocolate and more chocolate! And potatos, I love potatos!
Chocolate anything!!
Bread and olive oil…total meltdown when they are together, either on my table or in my cupboard.
Steamed mussels!
ICE CREAM I have to eat some every night….I just can’t seem to do without it !!!!!!
anything baked, and I do mean anything.
Girl scout Cookies and chips
Pretty sure nobody has said this yet….SUSHI!
I can not walk away from peanut butter and chocolate together! That and a cold Diet Coke from the fountain! Even if I have had my quota of Diet coke for the day, if one is offered from a fountain, I will take it!
Hmm …French fries & my aunts strawberry cake! Oh & donuts from a local Donut shop! I give in everytime!!!
Cheese!
My weakness is country fried steak with gravy! I could eat it anytime of the day!!
Chocolate!
Cheese; olives; kettle corn; caviar; vodka martini, 3 olives and just a bit soiled.
I’m a sucker for REALLY good chips and salsa.
Brownies are my weakness. I can make a batch of brownies and I have to force myself to share with everybody or I will be a fatty and eat them all myself….in one sitting. =)
Weakness: Cheese. “If I had a piece of cheese, I’d dip it… in cheese.” Melted, cubed, shredded, grated, fried. Wensleydale, Monterey, Havarti, you name it. No big secret, just LOooooOve cheese!
M&M’s, plain…with Bar-B-Q potato chips….this combo does in me every time……
