Congratulations to Mandy, BreAnn, Grace, Amber, and Tammy, the winners of this competition!
If I had just checked the mailbox earlier on Lent Eve I would have seen Ree’s new book, The Pioneer Woman Cooks: Food from My Frontier, sooner. It arrived the night we’re supposed to empty our flour and sugar bins and use up all the excess butter to make (and overdose) on pancakes.
It was well past dinner when I gathered the mail and spied Ree’s book. Thankfully the dishes were done because once I started paging through the book that was it for the night.
The first picture that caught my eye was an incredibly well behaved bejeweled cat:
How did she get her so poised? Our Chloe would never stand for being decked out like that.
But it was her four-page Homemade Glazed Donut tutorial that made me stop. Why hadn’t I checked the mail sooner? Instead of pancakes I could have made doughnuts for dinner! It had all the same ingredients as pancakes– sugar, milk, eggs, butter, flour. Plus they’re fried, making them even more decadent for the day!
There’s another reason I should have fried up a batch of doughnuts last Tuesday night. As I later confessed on twitter, I have three weakness: potato chips, doughnuts, and a good stiff gin and tonic, and I believe we’re meant to enjoy our vices that night.
Gail of One Tough Cookie tweeted back asking if I planned to give up all three for Lent. At the time I didn’t commit, but I’m ready. Yes, I’ll give up potato chips. A reluctant yes to gin and tonics. But since I missed my shot at making doughnuts last Tuesday, I’ve allowed myself–at least today–a couple of Ree’s.
And having experienced Ree’s Homemade Glazed Doughnuts first hand, I think they’re pretty much the ultimate–pure featherlight delights, like warm Krispy Kremes rolling off the conveyer freshly showered with glaze.
Besides the perfect doughnut recipe, Ree’s new book, The Pioneer Woman Cooks: Food from My Frontier, consolidates all of your favorites from the site along with some brand new ones. (Photos too!)
There’s another reason to celebrate. Ree has generously offered Three Many Cooks five copies of her new book for a giveaway. And here’s the added incentive. Since the book isn’t officially available until March 12, five lucky winners will receive their copies a wee bit early.
To win one of the five copies of Ree’s new book, The Pioneer Woman Cooks: Food from My Frontier, simply tells us your food weakness(es). Giveaway ends Sunday March 4th at 9 PM ET and winners will be announced the next morning.
Enough! I’ve bared my soul now let’s hear from you.
I think the line goes “Get me something deep-fried and smothered in chocolate!” O.K., I’m not that bad!! But chocolate is definitely high on the list, with “Dessert” being the main category.
Carbs in most any form. I just can’t get enough!
Anything chocolate or cheesey!
If it can be forked, spooned or eaten with my fingers, It is a weakness!! With the exceptipn of Doritos-don’t like ’em. Lastest biggest weakness is your Flat Apple Pie. OMG!!!
Nachos – I think I could live on them. 🙂
Love brownies!!! (and pretty much any dessert!)
My weakness is chocolate….anything chocolate but especially those no bake oatmeal chocolate cookies that you make on the stovetop…not good to keep those laying around the house because they get gobbled up QUICK!
Cheese. Dear Lord, if I didn’t have cheese I’d be the saddest girl on the planet. Any type too… from Sharp Cheddar to Feta to even stinky Limburger. Oh man, I think I need to hit the fridge now.
I absolutely love the Pioneer Woman, Ree. I have her first cookbook, and loved reading it as well as cooking out of it. My food weaknesses are: potato chips, french fries and cheese-by itself or cooked in something, and I always add way more cheese than is called for, and I would have to add breads-banana, pumpkin, poppyseed, etc. I make them for my husband to take to work for his workers and always have 1 extra for here at home (that means me. lol)
Anything lemon, and I could eat potatoes everyday!!!!!!!!!!
Let’s see, there’s chocolate, fresh baked bread, cheese…and I love Ree’s recipes! I cannot wait to get her new cookbook!!!
I think food in general is my weakness:)
I LOVE all things sweet!
Mexican– Fajita’s, enchiladas, rice beans, homemade hot sauce and chips. Fresh flour tortillas or fresh corn. OH MY I love them both! Then you have avacadoes plain or spiced up as guacomle. YUMMMY TO MY TUMMMMY
Pizza is my food weakness. I could scarf down pizza multiple times a day (& have)!
Dark chocolate!
Doughnuts, pie…especially cherry and pumpkin.
Love, love, love chocolate!!! Cake or cookies, ice cream or candy bars. It is my own food group!
cinnamon rolls. Big, gooey and hot out of the oven! Ree’s are the best!
Fried chicken!
It would have to potatoe chips is my weakness.
Puffy Cheetos and margaritas. Not together, though, because I can never get all the orange stuff off my fingers before picking up the cold, wet margarita glass. Then I have to lick the orange (now gooey) cheese off the glass without spilling the drink. It is not a pretty sight.
Cheesecake. Especially from The Cheesecake Factory.
Oh! And Girl Scout Cookies!!!!
Brownies and donuts!
It has to be shrimp and grits!
Anything Chocolate.
Weakness sweets really love fresh baked peanut butter cookies
Chocolate!
Almost anything chocolate or anything salty, especially tortilla chips
Freshly made guacamole and baked tortilla chips!!
Almost anything that includes cinnamon, cinnamon/sugar, cinnamon/sugar/brown sugar – Okay. I’m addicted to ciinnamon and sugar. I’ll admit it!
Chocholate!!!!!
Chocolate chip cookies and/or cake! 🙂
I am scared to death of yeast! LOL! Honestly, I never make anything with it, but I’d love to learn to make bread, rolls, etc. Everytime I buy a package of yeast it goes bad because I think I’ll just do it wrong…
Chocolate in any from and creamy mashed potatoes with butter and cream cheese…
The good stiff gin & tonic needs a lime! Tastes like Christmas. What’s not to get weak in the knees about that!
I love white chocolate cake!
Chocolate… A really nice piece of dark dark chocolate, it get’s me every. single. time.
I’ve got multiple weaknesses, but ice cream is on the top!
My food weekness- So hard to choose. At the moment it would have to be anything bready, fried, or covered in chocolate.
I would say my weakness is…my grandma’s homemade noodles. Let’s just say around my house they never go to waste.
Browniess. Or chocolate cake. Or lemon tarts. Or cake balls. I can’t decide. Burgers even. And pizzas. Is it weird that I’m hungry now?
Love Chocolate and Peanut Butter. Also love, love homemade soups and stews on a cold blistery, windy winter day. And believe me we get some.
Bread. Cheese. Red wine.
That was easy.
CHOCOLATE CAKE or MONKEY BREAD! YUMMY…!!!!
Food weaknesses? Yeah… I have a few those:
1. Cheese (many foods – pasta, tortillas, potatoes, pizza, etc. – are merely a vehicle for cheese consumption).
2. Potato chips
3. Vanilla ice cream
4. Reese’s peanut butter cups, and
5. Baked goods – especially cookies.
Now, if you’ll excuse me, please, I have to go have an early lunch. 😉
I would love to win Ree’s book!!!
My food weakness is toffee!
Bread and pasta
My weakness is peanut butter M&M’s, whipped cream vodka, and cheeto puffs with mustard…YUMMY!! ( not at the same time tho..LOL)
Anything Mexican, Chocolate, or Potatoes cooked any way!
