Congratulations to Mandy, BreAnn, Grace, Amber, and Tammy, the winners of this competition!
If I had just checked the mailbox earlier on Lent Eve I would have seen Ree’s new book, The Pioneer Woman Cooks: Food from My Frontier, sooner. It arrived the night we’re supposed to empty our flour and sugar bins and use up all the excess butter to make (and overdose) on pancakes.
It was well past dinner when I gathered the mail and spied Ree’s book. Thankfully the dishes were done because once I started paging through the book that was it for the night.
The first picture that caught my eye was an incredibly well behaved bejeweled cat:
How did she get her so poised? Our Chloe would never stand for being decked out like that.
But it was her four-page Homemade Glazed Donut tutorial that made me stop. Why hadn’t I checked the mail sooner? Instead of pancakes I could have made doughnuts for dinner! It had all the same ingredients as pancakes– sugar, milk, eggs, butter, flour. Plus they’re fried, making them even more decadent for the day!
There’s another reason I should have fried up a batch of doughnuts last Tuesday night. As I later confessed on twitter, I have three weakness: potato chips, doughnuts, and a good stiff gin and tonic, and I believe we’re meant to enjoy our vices that night.
Gail of One Tough Cookie tweeted back asking if I planned to give up all three for Lent. At the time I didn’t commit, but I’m ready. Yes, I’ll give up potato chips. A reluctant yes to gin and tonics. But since I missed my shot at making doughnuts last Tuesday, I’ve allowed myself–at least today–a couple of Ree’s.
And having experienced Ree’s Homemade Glazed Doughnuts first hand, I think they’re pretty much the ultimate–pure featherlight delights, like warm Krispy Kremes rolling off the conveyer freshly showered with glaze.
Besides the perfect doughnut recipe, Ree’s new book, The Pioneer Woman Cooks: Food from My Frontier, consolidates all of your favorites from the site along with some brand new ones. (Photos too!)
There’s another reason to celebrate. Ree has generously offered Three Many Cooks five copies of her new book for a giveaway. And here’s the added incentive. Since the book isn’t officially available until March 12, five lucky winners will receive their copies a wee bit early.
To win one of the five copies of Ree’s new book, The Pioneer Woman Cooks: Food from My Frontier, simply tells us your food weakness(es). Giveaway ends Sunday March 4th at 9 PM ET and winners will be announced the next morning.
Enough! I’ve bared my soul now let’s hear from you.
Homemade Toll House Chocolate Chip Cookies
coconut cream pie! My 14 year old daughter always share a piece whenever we go out to eat. This is making me hungry. I think I need to go and make a pie. Good luck everyone!
Jelly filled doughnuts
anything salty, crunchy and chock full of carbs, I just can’t help myself, yum
Chocolate and cookies
French fries are definitely my weakness!
Food with lots of flavors that you have to try to guess whats in it.
My super-secret hidden delight would have to be Cheetos. Crunchy, Puffs, it does not matter!
Fresh baked goods. I can’t bake anymore unless I know I’m taking it somewhere for others to eat.
Food… I just love good food. Especially salty/savory. (My weakness has to be chips though. Salt and vinegar especially.)
Sweets!! Chocolate to specific.
My weaknesses are Lays Potato Chips with Colby jack cheese. Truly the devil both are especially with a cold Dr. Pepper while watching one of my favorite reality shows and Facebooking in my life sucking recliner. Hmmm, makes me sound like a loser, time for some changes! 🙂
Hmmmnnnn……….one food? I would say bakery. Not just one, but all. 😉
I’m supposed to narrow this down? Ooohhhh dear god, where do I start? A good brownie will stop me in my tracks everytime, I can’t pass on perfect french fries, a perfectly grilled steak makes me salivate, the smell of any yeast bread cooking makes my stomach growl, and chocolate in almost any form is a deal maker. I just don’t know. Give me time, there’s so much more.
just one?!! I would have to say that my biggest food weakness is mashed potatoes with gravy – my grandmother makes THE best mashed potatoes, and it is TORTURE because i cannot leave them alone! — Evil Evil EVIL potatoes – so darn good!
Baked goodies. I love to bake all of the time and I just have to sample everything that I make to make sure it tastes okay for my family and friends! I’m usually pretty good and just have one or two. Usually!
Weaknesses…chocolate ice cream, a good pizza, homemade popcorn…the list could go on!
Vine ripened tomatoes!! I will eat them until I am sick! I also use butter, butter and butter in all my cooking and baking. I am devoted to it!
Pasta and anything with cheese!
Icecream and frenchfries:)
Ice Cream with whip cream and sprinkles……….the child in me comes out to play of course eating it with grandchildren makes it even taste better.
I made the penguins at new years and now at all family parties the grandkids want more of them. Thank you for the Idea.
Chocolate of course! What is it about that DIVINE taste of HEAVEN as it slowly hits your palate!
Bread, there I said it. I am in a bad relationship with this moist, fantastic medium. Anything made, sat next to, once dated bread is my weakness
I could never give up bread! Too much yummy!
Thanks for the giveaway!!
Homemade oatmeal/cho chunk/dried cherry cookies….can’t resist taking one from the cookie jar every time I pass.
My weakness is anything sweet or baked!
I can’t resist anything chocolate, and there’s not a day that goes by where I don’t have something chocolate. In the savory category, my weakness is fried chicken and mashed potatoes. That’s serious comfort food!
Chicken & Dumplins!!!
Peanut M&M’s!
Potatoes! Weird, I know, but I love them so. Oh yeah, I adore Cokes but I’ve already given them up, so I don’t think that counts.
Brownies, definitely, and you must try Ree’s Knock You Naked Brownies, to die for!!!!
Definitely chocolate. If my husband brings any home, I usually make him bring it to work or hide it so I won’t eat all of it …lol.
I really like steak! and i want to win a book for my wife who loves Ree too!
Almost anything with icing.
My weakness is mashed potatoes and gravy along with a good Vanilla Ice Cream!
Chocolate, salty snacks, ice cream. ‘Bout anything, really!
Freshly beaten whipping cream…it doesn’t even have to be sweetened. I know it’s kinda gross, but I could (and have) eat(en) it by the spoonful!
Chocolate!
Carbs, carbs, and more carbs! There’s nothing better!
bread and butter…can’t resist it!
I love food period but I’d walk a mile for some good pork ribs!
Ice cream! I can never have enough of it.
CHOCOLATE anything!!!
Cake and cookies are my weakness!
oh wow…can I just say food in general? If I have to narrow it down…anything with melted cheese….ooey gooey messy cheeseyness…is the most amazing thing ever!
My weakness is bread…i used to think it was silly when people told me that, but now i totally understand. Hot yeast rolls with honey butter…yummmy
Lemon anything! I am a sucker for a lemon cake or lemon cookies.
I’m with you on potato chips. They are utterly irresistible to me (and that’s not a good thing when you’ve got a new bag on hand).
Cheese….melted on anything, yes cheese.
I adore my boyfriend’s home-made schnitzel, smothered with gravy. I can’t get enough! I always ask for it for special occasions.
