Congratulations to Mandy, BreAnn, Grace, Amber, and Tammy, the winners of this competition!
If I had just checked the mailbox earlier on Lent Eve I would have seen Ree’s new book, The Pioneer Woman Cooks: Food from My Frontier, sooner. It arrived the night we’re supposed to empty our flour and sugar bins and use up all the excess butter to make (and overdose) on pancakes.
It was well past dinner when I gathered the mail and spied Ree’s book. Thankfully the dishes were done because once I started paging through the book that was it for the night.
The first picture that caught my eye was an incredibly well behaved bejeweled cat:
How did she get her so poised? Our Chloe would never stand for being decked out like that.
But it was her four-page Homemade Glazed Donut tutorial that made me stop. Why hadn’t I checked the mail sooner? Instead of pancakes I could have made doughnuts for dinner! It had all the same ingredients as pancakes– sugar, milk, eggs, butter, flour. Plus they’re fried, making them even more decadent for the day!
There’s another reason I should have fried up a batch of doughnuts last Tuesday night. As I later confessed on twitter, I have three weakness: potato chips, doughnuts, and a good stiff gin and tonic, and I believe we’re meant to enjoy our vices that night.
Gail of One Tough Cookie tweeted back asking if I planned to give up all three for Lent. At the time I didn’t commit, but I’m ready. Yes, I’ll give up potato chips. A reluctant yes to gin and tonics. But since I missed my shot at making doughnuts last Tuesday, I’ve allowed myself–at least today–a couple of Ree’s.
And having experienced Ree’s Homemade Glazed Doughnuts first hand, I think they’re pretty much the ultimate–pure featherlight delights, like warm Krispy Kremes rolling off the conveyer freshly showered with glaze.
Besides the perfect doughnut recipe, Ree’s new book, The Pioneer Woman Cooks: Food from My Frontier, consolidates all of your favorites from the site along with some brand new ones. (Photos too!)
There’s another reason to celebrate. Ree has generously offered Three Many Cooks five copies of her new book for a giveaway. And here’s the added incentive. Since the book isn’t officially available until March 12, five lucky winners will receive their copies a wee bit early.
To win one of the five copies of Ree’s new book, The Pioneer Woman Cooks: Food from My Frontier, simply tells us your food weakness(es). Giveaway ends Sunday March 4th at 9 PM ET and winners will be announced the next morning.
Enough! I’ve bared my soul now let’s hear from you.
Too many!! But chicken fried steak, cream gravy and mashed potatoes is the best!
Overall I have a huge bread weakness. I have been known to stop in our local bakery and buy some wheat rolls just to snack on. *blush* But, then I also have seasonal weaknesses. Right now I am stuck on M&M egg shaped chocolates. Yummo….
Any baked goods – cookies, cupcakes, brownies!
No Bake Cookies…its a happy cookie from my childhood…and, well, adulthood too. But I cannot eat just one.
M&M’s. I can not go one day without them.
My weakness WAS ice cream (AND often with a chaser of plain potato chips!) I gave it up when my daughter told me her doctor told HER it might not be possible for her to get pregnant. I told myself that my next dish of ice cream/potato chips would be WITH my daughter AND a baby! Two years and 8 months later—yummy! ColdStone cake batter ice cream with a chopped up brownie smashed into it! Eaten while smiling at baby Jax!
My food weakness is ice cream and popcorn (but not together!) 🙂
Okay… I have 2 weaknesses: the first is Tony Chacheries (not really a food, but a weakness non the less) I put this in and on EVERYTHING!!!!!! I use it in food recipes from everything to chicken and fish to soups and stews… I use it ON my popcorn, chips, pizza, on the crackers that I make homemade… Its the salty and spicy combo that gets me everytime!!! I can think of a millions ways to use it!!!
My second is: NUTELLA!!!!!! YUMMMM!!! enough said!!! I mean chocolate and hazelnuts in the same jar… (I think I am gonna take my jar out of my desk now!!!)
Mine would have to be red velvet cake, speaking of which I need to try Ree’s recipe.
Buttery-Cheesy Garlic Bread!
my food weekness? PW’s PIZZA!!! I love it!!!
Definitely bread. I love a good, warm crusty piece of bread or roll with butter. Love it.
Gravy is my weekness and then there is butter.. and sugar so any food with any one of these ingredients makes me jump right off the wagon.
Pizza!..Brick oven pizza!
Cheetos, I can’t help myself!
I can’t say no to cheesecake!
Fresh out of the oven Honey wheat rolls….. and bananas and peanut butter. Love both of them…. I can’t choose.
Food is my weakness! If I have to pick, it would be frozen custard from Ted Drews in St. Louis, MO. Specifically their Terramizzou sundae. It’s got a secret chocolate sauce with pistachios on top of their delicious vanilla custard. A perfect mixture of salty and sweet. I live about 2 hours away from there, but every time we go to St. Louis we go to Ted Drews.
Cheese, cheese, and more cheese! My fiance jokes that I’d eat cheese on cardboard if that was all there was to eat it on!
Anything with browned butter…including browned butter brown sugar cookies.
Salty snacks are my weakness!
I hate to admit it but i am a carb freak—-buttery bread, a salty chip…..gets me every time!!
Sunnie in NC
cookies! or chocolate!
There are very few foods that I don’t like, but if I had to pick a weakness it would be Italian food, Mexican food and sweets!
Chocolate Chip Cookie Dough
My food weakness is any snack food that is in the house.
Spaghetti. It’s my forever downfall!
Cheese!! Especially Norwegian ridder cheese. It’s wonderful!
Cheese, cheese, cheese! I love it all–but especially the “stinky” kind!
Cheesecake, all kinds and flavors, but only the real deal will do. If it’s a no-bake cheesecake I’ll pass.
Cheese and potatoes… can’t live without ’em and definitely can’t turn ’em down!
Sour cream…… just give me a spoon!!
anything salty!
oh man, anything garlicky and cheesy and bready……..YUM!
My food weaknesses are anything buttered, fried, or frosted, custards, and cheese!
Cheese and bread for sure! I have no will power what-so-ever when it comes to them. 🙂
chocolate …I love chocolate!
Chocolate is my weakness. Even when I am on a diet, I have to include chocolate. Ree’s s’more recipes are amazing and do not add TOO many calories to my diet.
