Congratulations to Mandy, BreAnn, Grace, Amber, and Tammy, the winners of this competition!
If I had just checked the mailbox earlier on Lent Eve I would have seen Ree’s new book, The Pioneer Woman Cooks: Food from My Frontier, sooner. It arrived the night we’re supposed to empty our flour and sugar bins and use up all the excess butter to make (and overdose) on pancakes.
It was well past dinner when I gathered the mail and spied Ree’s book. Thankfully the dishes were done because once I started paging through the book that was it for the night.
The first picture that caught my eye was an incredibly well behaved bejeweled cat:
How did she get her so poised? Our Chloe would never stand for being decked out like that.
But it was her four-page Homemade Glazed Donut tutorial that made me stop. Why hadn’t I checked the mail sooner? Instead of pancakes I could have made doughnuts for dinner! It had all the same ingredients as pancakes– sugar, milk, eggs, butter, flour. Plus they’re fried, making them even more decadent for the day!
There’s another reason I should have fried up a batch of doughnuts last Tuesday night. As I later confessed on twitter, I have three weakness: potato chips, doughnuts, and a good stiff gin and tonic, and I believe we’re meant to enjoy our vices that night.
Gail of One Tough Cookie tweeted back asking if I planned to give up all three for Lent. At the time I didn’t commit, but I’m ready. Yes, I’ll give up potato chips. A reluctant yes to gin and tonics. But since I missed my shot at making doughnuts last Tuesday, I’ve allowed myself–at least today–a couple of Ree’s.
And having experienced Ree’s Homemade Glazed Doughnuts first hand, I think they’re pretty much the ultimate–pure featherlight delights, like warm Krispy Kremes rolling off the conveyer freshly showered with glaze.
Besides the perfect doughnut recipe, Ree’s new book, The Pioneer Woman Cooks: Food from My Frontier, consolidates all of your favorites from the site along with some brand new ones. (Photos too!)
There’s another reason to celebrate. Ree has generously offered Three Many Cooks five copies of her new book for a giveaway. And here’s the added incentive. Since the book isn’t officially available until March 12, five lucky winners will receive their copies a wee bit early.
To win one of the five copies of Ree’s new book, The Pioneer Woman Cooks: Food from My Frontier, simply tells us your food weakness(es). Giveaway ends Sunday March 4th at 9 PM ET and winners will be announced the next morning.
Enough! I’ve bared my soul now let’s hear from you.
Pasta, Pasta, Pasta. And of course, chocolate, but that’s a given!
Oh, I am so unoriginal, mine is donuts and pizza. My husband knows when I am having a truly bad day to bring home donuts and pizza. He loves me.
pasta! any kind any way love it!!!!
Lately, it’s ice cream! Followed closely by chocolately baked goods, like brownies. 🙂
Dark Chocolate, of course.
Chocolate!! Chocolate!! And more chocolate!!
Bread, bread and more bread! Sweet or savory, it makes no difference to me:)
I can’t resist cheese. Ice cream is a close second.
My food weakness would be deliciously soft and crusty bread and cheese… yumm
GLUTENS!!!! Anything with glutens. I have Celiacs Disease. But I’m still a glutton for glutens!! Brownies is my ultimate nemesis…warm gooey brownies with a scoop of ice cream can make any day brighter!!! 😀
Cheesecake, Pizza, and Bread!
MEXICAN!!!!!!!!!!
Anything chocolate. Seriously yum.
Pizza, love it. Chicago style, yes. New York style, yes. Hideaway Pizza from Stillwater, OK definitely YES. I even love my own pathetic attempts at homemade pizza. It’s all delicious!
A major weakness…buttered popcorn! Yes, I like it dripping!
I’m with Michelle. Cheesecake is my weakness.
My food down fall is cheesecake. Really good cheesecake and strawberries on top is like the icing on a cake. YUM
Any thing sugary sweet, cookies cake, candy delaying ice cream the worse it is for me the more I like it
Love bread and pasta! (darn it)….if any of you haven’t tried Ree’s cinnamon rolls…easy to make and SUPER DELICIOUS!!!!!! Makes so much I shared with my neighbors and boss and family…make them and ENJOY! I promise they are the best!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
My food weaknesses are bread, which I don’t have the nerve to bake yet and sweets, which I love to bake!
Because I cannot eat dairy and gluten, I miss things with cheese the most, specifically pizza. I’ve been able to recreate most of the things I love, but somehow, pizza without real cheese just doesn’t cut it.
My food weakness is anything chocolate, I wish I could say no but I am weak!
Ice cream! And kind, any flavor, in any form! I LOVE it!
Sugar. Cookies. Cakes, Candy, You name it!!
Fried pickles–they are the bomb.
Meatloaf…..what a great comfort food!
My food weakness(es)? Crepes with chocolate mousse and a sprinkling of cocoa nibs…..oooh, or really good homemade turkey and noodles…..or maybe a really lovely honey lime grilled salmon on a bed of freshly picked spring greens…
I would say anything made with potatoes. Like casseroles, soup, etc. Love that comfort food!
mashed potatoes!
My weakness is potatoes, I make potatoes every which we you can. Each night for dinner there is a different recipe that I have created with potatoes. I especially love my potatoes casseroles with bacon, cheese and bread crumbs!
Yummy!
My weakness would have to be homemade cinnamon rolls. Love them.,,.
Anything salty and crunchy…. chips and salsa, crackers, etc.
Donuts! When I was younger and my parents would go out of town and leave food money, I’d head straight to the donut shop. I still can’t resist a good chocolate iced donut but I’ve learned to tone it down some.
Oh, and fries and ice cream. I can eat pretty healthy but these three things will get me every time!!
Ice cream, of any kind!!!
Definitely cheese….also crunchy peanut butter….but not the two together!
My Biggest weakness is Alfredo sauce, I love, love, love it !!!!. I try to Alfredo everything.. Lol.
Because I serve it to my family at least twice a month or more. I have had to find lite version, while they are good. I still love the high calorie decadent cream and butter based Alfredo sauce. I am truly an Alfredo purist. lol
chocolate and bread!
If I could have just one thing it would, of course, be dark chocolate. Nothing beats the creamy rich flavor of melting dark (Dove) chocolate bites!
Mine weakness is chocolate and my favorite candy bar, ZERO! YUM!
Chocolate and homemade cookies. Oh, dear.
Last year I had to give up sugar because of a blood sugar problem, so no more sweet tea. Aaargh!! This year I’ll try my best to give up cheese, it’s the siren song to me at any time of day. If I win a cookbook and there is a recipe that requires cheese I’ll try to wait and prepare it after Easter. However, I have learned not to promise anything that I absolutely may not be able to do.
I would love to have your new cookbook, my husband and I thoroughly enjoy your first one. : )
Brie!!!
homemade bread–like my grandmother made!! Hot out of the oven!
My weakness is crusty bread….hands down.
I’ll come running for almost any dessert!
Warm bread and butter. Smells and tastes wonderful!
Fried things….. FRY EVERYTHING!!!
Chocolate! The real, good kind. The darker the better. Being pregnant has only magnified my obsession 🙂
Ice cream and french fries!
