Congratulations to Mandy, BreAnn, Grace, Amber, and Tammy, the winners of this competition!
If I had just checked the mailbox earlier on Lent Eve I would have seen Ree’s new book, The Pioneer Woman Cooks: Food from My Frontier, sooner. It arrived the night we’re supposed to empty our flour and sugar bins and use up all the excess butter to make (and overdose) on pancakes.
It was well past dinner when I gathered the mail and spied Ree’s book. Thankfully the dishes were done because once I started paging through the book that was it for the night.
The first picture that caught my eye was an incredibly well behaved bejeweled cat:
How did she get her so poised? Our Chloe would never stand for being decked out like that.
But it was her four-page Homemade Glazed Donut tutorial that made me stop. Why hadn’t I checked the mail sooner? Instead of pancakes I could have made doughnuts for dinner! It had all the same ingredients as pancakes– sugar, milk, eggs, butter, flour. Plus they’re fried, making them even more decadent for the day!
There’s another reason I should have fried up a batch of doughnuts last Tuesday night. As I later confessed on twitter, I have three weakness: potato chips, doughnuts, and a good stiff gin and tonic, and I believe we’re meant to enjoy our vices that night.
Gail of One Tough Cookie tweeted back asking if I planned to give up all three for Lent. At the time I didn’t commit, but I’m ready. Yes, I’ll give up potato chips. A reluctant yes to gin and tonics. But since I missed my shot at making doughnuts last Tuesday, I’ve allowed myself–at least today–a couple of Ree’s.
And having experienced Ree’s Homemade Glazed Doughnuts first hand, I think they’re pretty much the ultimate–pure featherlight delights, like warm Krispy Kremes rolling off the conveyer freshly showered with glaze.
Besides the perfect doughnut recipe, Ree’s new book, The Pioneer Woman Cooks: Food from My Frontier, consolidates all of your favorites from the site along with some brand new ones. (Photos too!)
There’s another reason to celebrate. Ree has generously offered Three Many Cooks five copies of her new book for a giveaway. And here’s the added incentive. Since the book isn’t officially available until March 12, five lucky winners will receive their copies a wee bit early.
To win one of the five copies of Ree’s new book, The Pioneer Woman Cooks: Food from My Frontier, simply tells us your food weakness(es). Giveaway ends Sunday March 4th at 9 PM ET and winners will be announced the next morning.
Enough! I’ve bared my soul now let’s hear from you.
Chips and/or breads would be my weakness.
I love sweets…….pie, cake, cookies, Ree’s red velvet cake, ice cream…..simply sweets!
Oh man french fries, cheesecake, and any kind of chip and dip: sour cream and onion, guacamole, 7 layer, artichoke. Basically I love football but football snacks also make the day super duper great. 🙂
anything with sugar. I am diabetic and still cant keep it out of my mouth. Its like there is a sugar magnet in there or something.
I just love the Pioneer Woman.
Fried bread dough is my biggest weakness, especially with pizza sauce and grated cheese. Yum!
Stuffed mushrooms. Peanut butter pie. Baked goat cheese. Three things I can NEVER say no to.
Fresh bread toast, real butter…and crispy bacon…make the very best breakfast sandwich to go!
Brownies. Definitely brownies. I could eat a whole pan! And sometimes make them , eat half the batter and then bake the rest – and eat those too!
Salty chips and anything chocolate ~
Anything sweet!!!
My food weaknesses Red Velvet Cake, “Knock You Naked” Brownies Ree’s receipe, Corn and Cheese Chowder and of course doughnuts. =)
Tuna sandwiches, plain potatoe chips and lemonade.
My weakness is anything Chocolate. I keep saying someone should make Chocolate one of the five food groups on the food pyramid!
Anything Chinese!
Chocolate!!
Potatoes! Mashed, au gratin, baked, fried…you get the idea!!!!!!
DEFINITELY brownies and appetizers. Appetizers?? You may ask. . .like which kind??? ALL OF THEM!!!!! Finger foods are my weakness. PERIOD!!! Even if they only taste so-so. . . its a curse. 🙁
Anything chocolate…yum! And anything baked with cheese!!! And naughty, naughty French fries….:)
Chips, chocolate and cosmopolitans!!!
Lays plain potato chips with cream cheese!
Fresh bread with real butter. Cake, frosting – did I say frosting? I am sure I said frosting.. 🙂 Authentic Mexican food.. oh, and frosting.
mashed potatoes smothered in country gravy! (Just to mention one….)
Bread, specifically my grandmothers home made biscuts, and home made apple pie..which All goes straight to my waist!
Weakness….where do you start? Fresh bread, pizza, chocolate, pastries, red beans & rice, italian, mexican, american….. whatever it is …. I should just rub it on my butt, cause that’s where its going to end up.
I love Mexican food. It is hard to beat a good taco.
My weakness is definitely cookies. . .homemade sugar, or gingersnaps, or chocolate chip, or oatmeal cranberry. I like them chewy!
I’m an Italian girl at heart!! Can’t live without meatballs, sauce, pasta & pizza!! Lots of carbs but oh so YUMMY!!! :O)
Bread … all types of bread. Oh yes.
Chocolate and bread are my weakness. However, I would take an extra roll over chocolate anyday!
Macaroni and Cheese…of any sort! YUMMMMMMMMMMMM! Oh and chocolate
Italian Food. Eggplant parm that I can cook up, so yummy. Cheese just oozes of the spatula as you are serving it. Really think chicken breast parm.. OR a good vodka n penne sauce. Yummy!
Baked goods are my weekness, don’t care if it’s bread, pie, cookies, cake or otherwise, if it’s made with flour and sugar, I can’t say no.
My food weakness………..Donuts!…..Fried chicken……..and Pumpkin Pie! All soo yummy!
I just can’t help myself if there is a cooked spud around…doesn’t matter how they were cooked…tots, fries, au gratin, mashed, baked, microwaved, hashbrowns, soup…even if they aren’t cooked, I’ll microwave one up in about 6 1/2 minutes (toppings optional) to satisfy a craving. I’ve eaten at least one a day for as long as I can remember 🙂 I think I was meant to live in Idaho.
I can’t walk away from Doughnuts and for that matter just about anything sweet!! That’s what the gym is for to get rid of the fat so I can eat more!!
Anything chocolate!
Peanut butter, avocados, sour cream, any kind of cheese, the smellier the better, red wine and roast potatos – I would happily eat them all at once!
sweets of any kind. . . especially chocolate 🙂
Any kind of baked goods!
I can’t get enough of fresh gaucamole I will eat the whole bowl by myself. I also have a weak spot for cream cheese I pretty much cake cream cheese on my bagel like I’m frosting a cake. mmmmm 🙂
I simply cannot walk away from good-quality dark chocolate or freshly-baked crusty bread!
My biggest weakness… c-h-o-c-o-l-a-t-e. A close second are baked goods (Yes, I definitely have one heck of a sweet tooth!) and fresh cut french fries. The last one is a no-no now as I have an intolerance to potatoes and well, even though the joy and pleasure of a salty, greasy fresh fry is immediate gratification, the pain after, not so much. But I still sniff them when my family orders them… ahhh…
Anything potatoes.
Any kind of potato… plus chicken and dumplings and chocolate covered strawberries plus any chip with any dip… I know, I have a lot of weaknesses
Can’t live without chocolate (any kind) and fresh, home made bread! 🙂
My weakness is sweets!! Cakes, donuts, cookies, anything sweet!!!
My food vice is definitely Jelly beans or anything sweet adn gummy like jelly beans. I can eat a whole bag of Jolly Rancher Jelly Beans in one sitting!
Brownies! From an old recipe that my Grandmother gave me. It has the 3 things that make a recipe great:
1. Simple whole ingredients
2. Easy directions
3. No fail deliciousness every time!
hmm… nachos, definitely. I’d have to add my homemade Banana Bread, Sugar Cookies and Cranberry Chocolate Biscotti also.
I can generally keep myself away from the nachos if I don’t buy them (sometimes I just have to give in though), but the banana bread, cookies and biscotti I make weekly for my business so that’s a little harder to stay away from! 🙂
My weakness is homemade guacamole with chips!! If you put it in front of me, It’ll be gone before you know it 🙂 Also, chocolate ice cream.
