Congratulations to Mandy, BreAnn, Grace, Amber, and Tammy, the winners of this competition!
If I had just checked the mailbox earlier on Lent Eve I would have seen Ree’s new book, The Pioneer Woman Cooks: Food from My Frontier, sooner. It arrived the night we’re supposed to empty our flour and sugar bins and use up all the excess butter to make (and overdose) on pancakes.
It was well past dinner when I gathered the mail and spied Ree’s book. Thankfully the dishes were done because once I started paging through the book that was it for the night.
The first picture that caught my eye was an incredibly well behaved bejeweled cat:
How did she get her so poised? Our Chloe would never stand for being decked out like that.
But it was her four-page Homemade Glazed Donut tutorial that made me stop. Why hadn’t I checked the mail sooner? Instead of pancakes I could have made doughnuts for dinner! It had all the same ingredients as pancakes– sugar, milk, eggs, butter, flour. Plus they’re fried, making them even more decadent for the day!
There’s another reason I should have fried up a batch of doughnuts last Tuesday night. As I later confessed on twitter, I have three weakness: potato chips, doughnuts, and a good stiff gin and tonic, and I believe we’re meant to enjoy our vices that night.
Gail of One Tough Cookie tweeted back asking if I planned to give up all three for Lent. At the time I didn’t commit, but I’m ready. Yes, I’ll give up potato chips. A reluctant yes to gin and tonics. But since I missed my shot at making doughnuts last Tuesday, I’ve allowed myself–at least today–a couple of Ree’s.
And having experienced Ree’s Homemade Glazed Doughnuts first hand, I think they’re pretty much the ultimate–pure featherlight delights, like warm Krispy Kremes rolling off the conveyer freshly showered with glaze.
Besides the perfect doughnut recipe, Ree’s new book, The Pioneer Woman Cooks: Food from My Frontier, consolidates all of your favorites from the site along with some brand new ones. (Photos too!)
There’s another reason to celebrate. Ree has generously offered Three Many Cooks five copies of her new book for a giveaway. And here’s the added incentive. Since the book isn’t officially available until March 12, five lucky winners will receive their copies a wee bit early.
To win one of the five copies of Ree’s new book, The Pioneer Woman Cooks: Food from My Frontier, simply tells us your food weakness(es). Giveaway ends Sunday March 4th at 9 PM ET and winners will be announced the next morning.
Enough! I’ve bared my soul now let’s hear from you.
My weakness would definitely have to be bread…especially homemade…yum!
Hmmmm…I have many weaknesses but the top 3 are homemade stuffing, freshly baked bread, and REAL cream.
Ice Cream is my weakness. I love all kinds and if I was told that there was only food I could have it would be ice cream.” I scream you scream we all scream for Ice Cream!!!!!”
salt and vinegar potato chips, cinnamon rolls, and ice cream :0)
Mexican food is my weakkness along with Chocolate cake and carrot cake:)
freshly baked, hot out of the oven, bread, slathered with butter, and occasionally dripping with honey, BREAD!
My food weaknesses are fries, chips and dip and Captain Morgan and Diet Coke!!
Oreos…I truly will eat the whole package if they are in the house!
Donuts. Donuts, Donuts, DONUTS!!!! But not just any donuts. Krispy Kreme donuts (or ones like them). I stick my nose up at Dunkin’ Donuts. Bleh. They’re like round cake with a hole in it. Give me soft, gooey, fried, glazed……oh my lands…. I need to go find me a donut! (or twelve!)
And now, thanks to Ree….cinnamon rolls. I made a half recipe of her cinnamon rolls and almost couldn’t bring myself to give away one small, little pan to my parents. I think I’m going to become a cinnamon roll hoarder…
Cheese and fresh bread do me in every time!
It’s good quality chocolate, especially the dark kind.
My food weakness is gravy! I LOVE gravy! I could eat it as a food group all by itself! My grandmother used to make the best gravy and I remember her putting a bowl of homemade gravy on the dinner table on the farm. I was the first to take spoonfuls of it and I could literally drink it! My mom now makes my grandmother’s gravy and even though I am much older now, I am still the first one to taste the gravy and take spoonfuls of it to eat before putting it on my food. Gravy is a huge weakness for me because I can never get enough and it makes food taste so yummy! 🙂
Cookies, chocolate, huckleberry pie.
I have a weakness for good ‘ole comfort food!
Mashed potatoes and cake/cupcakes. If I’m ever around either, I HAVE to have them. I just can’t help myself.
What isn’t my weakness?! but mostly it’s anything sweet, from pie and cake to tootsie pops!
Oh Lordy!! There’s so many, Potatoes are my biggest downfall and then there are donuts, fresh baked bread (which I bake every Sat) so you know I’m a “round person” and I can’t leave out fried chicken
Absolutely anything chocolate, pasta,potatoes…
CREAM CHEESE is my weakness!! It makes everything better!
Ree’s perfect potatoes au gratin!!! AMAZING. & bbq sandwichs, fried squash, biscuits…
Pasta! I LOVE pasta…it’s definitely my weakness!
Chips and salsa!
I love pasta, but my food weakness is a must have dessert after every meal! I love ice cream and cookies.
Chocolate, Short Ribs, Rice Pudding, Thai Tea, Baked Pineapple Souffle, – and those are just off the top of my head!
Ice cream!!!!!
fresh hot rolls!!!
Oh my. Just one? Mine are more like weaknessES. 😉

I love potatoes…any kind….any where. I’ll take them fried, mashed, boiled, soups, cheesy, chili, raw with salt….if I was stuck on an island and there was only food I could have give me potatoes!!
Anything Chocolate!!!
Homemade pizza is my weakness.
CHEESE! any kind, any preparation, any time.
OMG, when ever I tell myself to watch what I eat, it seems like every food that appears before my eyes I end up watching while eating it. I love sweets, I love to bake, its my way to relax, and I enjoy baking for my husband, althought he doesn’t like it much either because he enjoys eating it also.
Normally my food weakness is anything sweet or bready, but currently I am pregnant with baby #3 who has decided that it hates food! Hopefully this sickness will pass soon and I can enjoy some yummy food again!
Anything with dough!!!! or chips and salsa!!!!!
Potato chips and just about anything with chocolate in/on it!
Oatmeal Scotchies – I will make myself sick on those. There is no Off-Button when it comes to their deliciousness, so my only defense is to have lots of other people around (to help gobble ’em up) when I make them. 😀
There is not just one – but if I can lump it into one – it would be sweets! I am a sugar-holic. And sitting here at my desk at work, I am now craving donuts!
Mac and Cheese!!
Love Banana Bars, Hamloaf a good Chicken Croquette …along with a snacky food would be chips and salsa or buffalo dip
Oh – I am a doughnut person, too. Doughnuts and Oreos are not allowed in my house unless it is a holiday or other special occasion. I really have no self control!
I LOVE Japanese food. and some cookies.
Do Peeps count as a food? PW’s brussel sprouts with balsamic vinegar and dried cranberries are pretty doggone good too, and of course prime rib.
Sweets, definitely!!! And pasta
Chips and salsa! I think I could live on them! Yum!
Anything sweet, and comfort food like mac n cheese, etc.
My weakness is anything my mom cooks! I LOVE to cook, and I do it all the time, I love to be creative and also make family favorites. But there is NOTHING better than Mom’s cooking! Maybe it is because I live so far away from her, that simply just having a meal with her is made even better by the fact that I am enjoying the time with her and Dad!!!!!! And my kiddos are also able to enjoy those special times, too!
Lately, it’s been anything made with butternut squash and Vanilla Greek Yogurt with fresh berries!
Crawfish, Potatoes, Chocolate Cake, and Reese’s Cups
Anything coffee flavored – especially ice cream!
Rice and beans.
