If I had just checked the mailbox earlier on Lent Eve I would have seen Ree’s new book, The Pioneer Woman Cooks: Food from My Frontier, sooner. It arrived the night we’re supposed to empty our flour and sugar bins and use up all the excess butter to make (and overdose) on pancakes.
It was well past dinner when I gathered the mail and spied Ree’s book. Thankfully the dishes were done because once I started paging through the book that was it for the night.
The first picture that caught my eye was an incredibly well behaved bejeweled cat:
How did she get her so poised? Our Chloe would never stand for being decked out like that.
But it was her four-page Homemade Glazed Donut tutorial that made me stop. Why hadn’t I checked the mail sooner? Instead of pancakes I could have made doughnuts for dinner! It had all the same ingredients as pancakes– sugar, milk, eggs, butter, flour. Plus they’re fried, making them even more decadent for the day!
There’s another reason I should have fried up a batch of doughnuts last Tuesday night. As I later confessed on twitter, I have three weakness: potato chips, doughnuts, and a good stiff gin and tonic, and I believe we’re meant to enjoy our vices that night.
Gail of One Tough Cookie tweeted back asking if I planned to give up all three for Lent. At the time I didn’t commit, but I’m ready. Yes, I’ll give up potato chips. A reluctant yes to gin and tonics. But since I missed my shot at making doughnuts last Tuesday, I’ve allowed myself–at least today–a couple of Ree’s.
And having experienced Ree’s Homemade Glazed Doughnuts first hand, I think they’re pretty much the ultimate–pure featherlight delights, like warm Krispy Kremes rolling off the conveyer freshly showered with glaze.

Love to bake and fix things my family love. I love my iron skilled which was my Moms and is the best for everything fried and it makes awesome too.
Chicken Fried Steak, fried potatoes and gravy. Wow, can’t believe I said that out loud.
My absolute weakness is crab legs…but I love cream cheese and Ree’s Calzones!

Pastry. A good banana/cream cheese/chocolate will put me over the top. But really. I enjoy pastry for the sweet, warm fillings, and the crispy and flaky outside! 🙂 Yum!

Ree’s cinnamon rolls, i spread my homemade cherry jam all over the dough, roll it up and bake up deliciousness! yummm…
My two biggest weaknesses are french fries and doughnuts (any kind will do, but especially a big giant apple fritter).

Rice and gravy is my food weakness, being married to a Cajun, it is a requirement or we go through withdrawal.
BBQ baby back ribs that I cook on the grill. Bread or rolls fresh out of the oven with butter. Chocolate chip cookies fresh out of the oven with a BIG glass of really cold milk!
Anything chocolate, as I munch on some m and m’s…
My number one obsession in food is pastry – donuts, pie, and ESPECIALLY anything made with puff pastry and has a custard filling. I seriously can put away an amount that I won’t post…LOL!
My family always calls me “the chip monster”, ’cause I melt at the site of any kind of chip…corn, potato, pretty much any kind as long as “chip” is part of it’s name!
I love anything chocolate. Brownies, ice cream cake anything with chocolate. Also bread. I love a good bread.

Cheese, almost any kind. I’m particularly fond of Washington State University’s Cougar Gold. It is better than chocolate.
Steak!!!! I could become a vegetarian easily except for my love of steak. I don’t care about any other cuts of beef or any other meat. Whoa is me!!!!

I have been very strict about eating everything in moderation-portion control. I would experience such freedom to just eat as much as I want whenever I wanted it! I love all food!
Ree’s buffalo wings. My husband and I love them and just can’t stop eating them. They are so addictive!!!

I am an all around foodie! I love to cook and to eat and to feed others! I love the look on folks’ faces when they are eating food that I have prepared.

These awesome muffins that we make at the bakery I work at. Fresh fruit compote in the middle with a dollop of a cream cheese mix. Fresh out of the oven!
