Congratulations to Mandy, BreAnn, Grace, Amber, and Tammy, the winners of this competition!
If I had just checked the mailbox earlier on Lent Eve I would have seen Ree’s new book, The Pioneer Woman Cooks: Food from My Frontier, sooner. It arrived the night we’re supposed to empty our flour and sugar bins and use up all the excess butter to make (and overdose) on pancakes.
It was well past dinner when I gathered the mail and spied Ree’s book. Thankfully the dishes were done because once I started paging through the book that was it for the night.
The first picture that caught my eye was an incredibly well behaved bejeweled cat:
How did she get her so poised? Our Chloe would never stand for being decked out like that.
But it was her four-page Homemade Glazed Donut tutorial that made me stop. Why hadn’t I checked the mail sooner? Instead of pancakes I could have made doughnuts for dinner! It had all the same ingredients as pancakes– sugar, milk, eggs, butter, flour. Plus they’re fried, making them even more decadent for the day!
There’s another reason I should have fried up a batch of doughnuts last Tuesday night. As I later confessed on twitter, I have three weakness: potato chips, doughnuts, and a good stiff gin and tonic, and I believe we’re meant to enjoy our vices that night.
Gail of One Tough Cookie tweeted back asking if I planned to give up all three for Lent. At the time I didn’t commit, but I’m ready. Yes, I’ll give up potato chips. A reluctant yes to gin and tonics. But since I missed my shot at making doughnuts last Tuesday, I’ve allowed myself–at least today–a couple of Ree’s.
And having experienced Ree’s Homemade Glazed Doughnuts first hand, I think they’re pretty much the ultimate–pure featherlight delights, like warm Krispy Kremes rolling off the conveyer freshly showered with glaze.
Besides the perfect doughnut recipe, Ree’s new book, The Pioneer Woman Cooks: Food from My Frontier, consolidates all of your favorites from the site along with some brand new ones. (Photos too!)
There’s another reason to celebrate. Ree has generously offered Three Many Cooks five copies of her new book for a giveaway. And here’s the added incentive. Since the book isn’t officially available until March 12, five lucky winners will receive their copies a wee bit early.
To win one of the five copies of Ree’s new book, The Pioneer Woman Cooks: Food from My Frontier, simply tells us your food weakness(es). Giveaway ends Sunday March 4th at 9 PM ET and winners will be announced the next morning.
Enough! I’ve bared my soul now let’s hear from you.
Mallomars and fresh bread (not together!)
I could not, would not, give peanut butter up for Lent.
A good creamy, cheesy macaroni and cheese does it for me every time.
Cheesy macaroni, bowtie pasta with pesto, gnoochi in a simple tomato sauce, dark chocolate cake, Italian bread with olive oil, pumpkin/pecan/apple sour cream pie… the list goes on and on. Can you tell I am a carb lover?

Anything chocolate and girl scout thin mints.
Ice cream, uh ice cream and maybe some home made cookies.
My biggest weakness is chicken and dumplins. What can I say, I’m from the south!
Donuts and cinnamon rolls are definately my weakness. They would be considered a “red light” food for me. Unfortunately, I don’t obey those red lights like I should! I’m amazed that a glass case door hasn’t shattered on me like Ree’s donut story!
bacon, popcorn, and a good pizza followed by an alcohol drink
Wow…I have so many food weaknesses! But, I’m gonna go with anything sweet. Tough for me to turn down anything with sugar as a main ingredient.
I’ve given up ranch dressing and french fries with cheese for lent….i think that says it all…..
Chocolate of course!
Desserts are my biggest weekness. I just can’t say no.
Oh, sign me up! You know I love her doughnuts, lasagna, et all!

Oooh, food weaknesses….well being that it’s Lent and I gave up foods that contain nickel as I recently discovered I am allergic to it…..anything chocolate of course is top of my list since I cannot have any, spinach, strawberries, shrimp…..it’s a very tough 40 days here in NC. I love Ree’s recipes and humor, the olive bread she makes is one def. weakness…..my coworkers who turn their nose up at olives don’t know what they are missing! It’s okay, more for me to enjoy! Thanks for a new cookbook Ree!
Peanut Butter Blossom Cookies! Delicious.
I would never ever be able to give up fried chicken, especially since I am from the south.
I love barbeque chips with ice cream!!! Any flavor ice cream but definitely Barbeque chips.
Cookies!!! Especially white chocolate cranberry.
Food weaknesses? Depends on the day! Always chocolate. Sometimes salty things – chips, crackers, etc. Comfort foods – like Chicken Pot Pies, meatloaf, Swedish meatballs. And cookies – especially chocolate chip or peanut butter.

Cookies. Just cookies.
Fresh bread, potato chips, french fries!!! etc. etc…. 😀
Dark chocolate anything especially if it has been chilled! Can’t wait to get Ree’s new book – have read them all so far! She is a fabulous cook. Thanks for the opportunity for a chance to win a copy of her new book.
Mmmm… my Aunt Patti’s homemade peach cobbler, made from peaches picked out of her own yard, topped with homemade vanilla ice cream cranked in the same old fashioned ice cream maker that my Grandad used to use. And guess what… they live in Oklahoma too! I wish it was peach season right now…
I would have to say bread and rolls, and Jimmy John’s sandwiches 🙂
Fried chicken and chocolate cake!!
LOVE macaroni & cheese!
Vanilla ice cream with chocolate syrup and fresh strawberries and a butter cookie on the side…YUM
Geeze Ree, I love all of your food. Been a farm girl at heart all my life. Grew up on the family farm with 9 siblings. Married a small town guy and been living there every since, but I’m a country girl at heart. So I grew up with real cream and butter and all the good stuff. I think my biggest weaknesses are cinnamon rolls anything chocolate and barbecue meatballs.
