If I had just checked the mailbox earlier on Lent Eve I would have seen Ree’s new book, The Pioneer Woman Cooks: Food from My Frontier, sooner. It arrived the night we’re supposed to empty our flour and sugar bins and use up all the excess butter to make (and overdose) on pancakes.
It was well past dinner when I gathered the mail and spied Ree’s book. Thankfully the dishes were done because once I started paging through the book that was it for the night.
The first picture that caught my eye was an incredibly well behaved bejeweled cat:
How did she get her so poised? Our Chloe would never stand for being decked out like that.
But it was her four-page Homemade Glazed Donut tutorial that made me stop. Why hadn’t I checked the mail sooner? Instead of pancakes I could have made doughnuts for dinner! It had all the same ingredients as pancakes– sugar, milk, eggs, butter, flour. Plus they’re fried, making them even more decadent for the day!
There’s another reason I should have fried up a batch of doughnuts last Tuesday night. As I later confessed on twitter, I have three weakness: potato chips, doughnuts, and a good stiff gin and tonic, and I believe we’re meant to enjoy our vices that night.
Gail of One Tough Cookie tweeted back asking if I planned to give up all three for Lent. At the time I didn’t commit, but I’m ready. Yes, I’ll give up potato chips. A reluctant yes to gin and tonics. But since I missed my shot at making doughnuts last Tuesday, I’ve allowed myself–at least today–a couple of Ree’s.
And having experienced Ree’s Homemade Glazed Doughnuts first hand, I think they’re pretty much the ultimate–pure featherlight delights, like warm Krispy Kremes rolling off the conveyer freshly showered with glaze.

Bread and cheese! I could eat bread and cheese all day long. Throw in some stuffed olives (garlic, bleu cheese, almond, whatever) and apple slices and oh my. Heaven!!
Chocolate makes me do back flips(well, if I only could) I would love your newest cookbook to sit alongside your other books. Thank you!

I am doing the Daniel fast, so i really can only eat veggies, fruits, beans and a few other lovely things. The thing I miss the most is cheese! Didn’t realize I liked it so much 🙂

I am weak in the knees for a great loaf of warm crusty bread with real butter!
Bread….bread pudding….dressing….stuffing…angel biscuits…sourdough…..I love it all.

I love peanut butter. I cannot stop eating it. I only let myself buy the little to-go peanut butter cups so I portion it out. LOL. Whatever gives me some peanut butter.

You can only get my “food weakness” durung Easter, Its Starburst Jelly Beans!!! I found a bag that weighs 2.7 lounds at Walmart this week and will be back to get 3 or 4 more bags before Easter candy is all sold (alreadt abought that many,lol).

Bread and butter, fresh home-made flour tortillas with butter. Love my carbs!

I have two major food weaknesses – ice cream and anything chocolate…sigh
My weakness is Motlen Chocolate Cake by Sweet Streets.
Red Velvet Cake and Guacamole, and YES, I will eat them together!!!!!!! Don’t tempt me!! lol
Fried chicken, eggplant parmesan and other dishes where cheese is a main ingredient, any dessert with condensed milk or mascarpone….the list is endless.

tacos. mexican/tex-mex in general, but I’m such a sucker for tacos it’s not even funny.
My food weaknesses are many…way too many…Cheryl & Co’s Iced Sugar Cookies, Reese’s Peanut Butter Eggs, just about any kind of pie, chocolate, buttery popcorn, etc…
Bread… anything bread! with cheese, or chocolate!
Chewy cookies – I don’t care what kind.. chocolate chip, oatmeal raisin, peanut butter, this cookie monster will eat ’em all
Anything sweet is my first. Shrimp is a close second.
My food weakness is actually a beverage weakness…..coffee. I would drink a good latte any day before actually eating a meal of real food. Not good, luckily I dont replace meals with lattes too often!

The little foil wrapped Reeses P-nut butter cups. Several come to bed with me each night along with whatever I am reading, oh the shame!
No matter what dessert is served at the end of a meal, I’m never done until I have a chunky chocolate chip cookie!!

My food weakness is any kind of sweet bread pudding; it is my very favorite comfort food as my dad use to make it for dessert. I love trying different versions, but my dad’s recipe will always be the best..
