Threemanycooks has more readers than we could possibly have imagined in just two short months. (Thanks Ree Drummond–aka Pioneer Woman–for the warm web welcome.)
Given all our readers, however, there’s not nearly enough yakking! We suspect it’s because after you’ve read our long, carefully crafted responses (which we’ve heard you like) you think you need to respond in kind. Not so. And to prove how much we like short responses, we’re going to give you 140 characters (more or less) to complete the following sentiment, “I adore (or abhor) Thanksgiving because….”
Character count begins after “because…” and don’t worry about being Twitter precise because no one is really counting. For those who don’t use Twitter, 140 characters is basically just one long sentence.
Posting deadline is this Sunday, November 15th at 11:59 PM Eastern Time with winners announced by 6:00 PM Eastern Time on Monday, November 16th. Winners will then e-mail pam@threemanycooks.com with their shipping address.
The two best comments will receive a handsome Lindsay Olives holiday wreath (see photo above) made from olive, bay, and eucalyptus branches, shipped to you in time for Thanksgiving (as long as winners give us their street address and phone number by November 19th).
If you’re not one of the lucky winners, however, and would still like a wreath, they’re very reasonable—$30 for a 14-inch one, $35 for an 18-incher (plus shipping) with delivery until December 31, 2009. You can order at www.lindsayolives.com or call (800) 765-2029.
And here’s the best part: proceeds from wreath sales go to The Meals On Wheels Association of America (MOWAA), so not only are you getting (or giving) something beautiful, you’re also helping a worthy cause.
Let the responses (in the comments section below) begin!

Sarah G says
I love Thanksgiving because as a child my whole extended family would get together, the Aunties would cook, wonderful smells eminating from the kitchen, all 15 kids would play together then we’d eat until we couldn’t walk. It is a very cherished memory.

I adore Thanksgiving because of my Aunt Kate’s homemade gravy; which has the ability to make any of the otherwise inedible items on the buffet absolutely delicious with a good dousing!
Kate C says
I adore Thanksgiving because for me it’s the kickoff event for cranberries and oranges – together in relish, sauce, bread, stuffed french toast… They perk up the darker days, and make the house smell great.
Linda Katmarian says
It’s a lot of work for little thanks. Cook all day and gone in 30 seconds. Just leave me a glass of wine and the turkey stuffing. The rest is yours.

I adore, Thanksgiving is my favorite holiday. Even though I’m 27 years old and married, I still get up every morning (with my hubby of course) and head to my Mom’s house. She and I get the onions, celery, and butter cooking for her famous cornbread stuffing (delicious!). We chat, talk girl talk, (sometimes bust out a bottle of wine at 11:00 in the morning, we know how to have fun!) and listen to my husband, my Dad, and my brother in the living room playing ‘war’ (video games…oye).
It’s times like this that I relish, it reminds me what I’m thankful for every day of my life. My family, our wonderfully close bond, and our love of food.
Amanda says

I adore thanksgiving because I am related to so many great cooks. I get to enjoy my favorite meal of the year with my large extended family and eat turkey, stuffing, mashed potatoes, gravy, cranberry sauce, pumpkin and apple pie, breads and so many other goodies and I get to play with my cousin’s children. What could be better than that.

I adore Thanksgiving because it makes me feel like an accomplished “big girl”, fixing an entire turkey plus sides and desserts–all that with my family looking on in awe! And, it’s the one time of the year that my husband helps with the dishes without complaining. And don’t get me started on leftovers…
Dogmom says
I abhor Thanksgiving these days because now that all of the parents who organized the meal when we were growing up have passed away, we (meaning my siblings and our cousins) have no traditions. I know we need to develop new traditions, but so far none of us has done that, and I feel really adrift at Thanksgiving. It’s sad.
Kelli says
I adore Thanksgiving because it’s full of family, food and fun, but free from all the harried gift buying/exchanging of Christmas. We gather without any expectations of anything other than enjoying each other and the lovely food we prepared.
