Now that’s it fall, I’m really loving this book. Apples are coming in strong, and I’ve got a book full of appealing recipes—Vermont Apple Cider Donuts, Williamsburg Wrapples (little iced apple pastries) and a whole chapter devoted to pies and other baked apple desserts. There are savory recipes too—Pork and Apple Pie with Cheddar-Sage Crust, Sweet Potato-Apple Latkes, Apple Risotto.
In fact the recipes looked so good I couldn’t settle on just one, so the publisher has given us permission to run two. This morning it’s Dutch Baby, a puffy apple-filled popover, perfect weekend breakfast/brunch fare. The Southern girl in me couldn’t resist Apple-Stuffed Biscuit Buns, so stop in tomorrow for that recipe.

I love a little simple apple dessert ~ puff pastry topped with thinly sliced apples topped with a little sugar, then when done glazed with apricot jam. Delicious and so simple!!!

The Apple cake with caramel sauce yall posted last year. It is one of the best desserts I’ve ever made. I’ve already made it twice since apple season started. That caramel sauce is addictive and it doesn’t seem so sinful topping an “apple” cake. 🙂

I love apples and brown sugar baked inside an acorn squash. It’s my perfect autumn dish.
My mother-in-law’s applesauce: Peel & core, cook, mash but leave chunky. (Though it took many years to abandon my mother’s food-mill version.)

I love Dutch Apple Pie, but since I live gluten free now, Pam’s easy baked apples with a little butter pecan ice cream is my favorite! (And I’m not just saying that so you’ll pick me – it’s the truth!) 🙂
I love to make apple muffins to have in the mornings and for snacks.
My homemade apple sauce. It’s very, very different and beautiful to see. Everyone loves it and is amazed at how easy it is to make. My husband eats at least one apple every day.

Its so hard to pick just one absolute favorite! Right now, I’m in love with any savory use for apples. I grew up only seeing apples in dessert or sweeter breakfast type recipes, so I’m really taking advantage of the season to try them in quesadillas, with chicken, with salmon, etc. Its been really fun and makes settling on a single favorite almost impossible. If I had to pick just one though, I’d probably go to a roasted apple cake covered with a simple salted caramel glaze, served warm, filling the air with aromas of cinnamon, ginger, vanilla, and caramelized apples, complemented with a small scoop of simple vanilla bean ice cream. Excuse me, I have to go bake an apple cake now…
Apple Pie in a Jar from Tasty Kitchen. My family goes apple picking outside of Charlottesville, VA every year. We always pick a ton because it is just so much fun. Then my husband and I make the Pie in a Jar and the girls’ teachers get great Christmas gifts each year. They LOVED it last year and it is so easy and such a nice gift.
