Hello, Three Many Cooks friends! We’ve teamed up with JCPenney for a Valentine’s Day giveaway. You won’t be surprised these Confetti Stemless Cocktail Glasses caught our eye as did this Core Bamboo Classic Tray, because for us, love is served up in glasses and mugs and on platters and plates. Whether it’s breakfast in bed or cocktail hour, serving it on a tray makes these moments feel that much more special.
I often bring Andy his morning tea and toast in bed as he catches up on the news or reads his e-mails, but today I delivered it on this tray. We both commented how special it felt being served in this way.
Regardless of Friday’s weather, Mom and Dad, Sharon and Anthony, and Andy and I will all stay in and make a special dinner. No doubt, we’ll start with a cocktail. I don’t know what the other couples will be sipping, but I plan to start with this cocktail and a few nibbles set up on our new tray.
Sharon’s husband, Anthony, our resident cocktail maker came up with a recipe for a delicious Cucumber Smash, which is not only the right color for Friday, but also an ode to warmer weather, which we all long for as we stare down another winter storm.
Says Anthony, “This cocktail seems like it should have been created somewhere in London, on a beautiful terrace of a building older than any in our United States. Maybe even a faraway place like India, back in a time when British elites mixed cucumbers and gin and bitter flavors.
But this cocktail comes from Old San Juan, Puerto Rico, on a wonderful winter trip Sharon and I took during the famed Polar Vortex of early January. In the coming months, I’ll write more about the trip and one of the best the best cocktail bar I’ve ever entered, but for now, I leave you with something to start: a refreshing drink that conjures notions of warm breezes and sunlight: the cucumber smash.”
Today, thanks to JCPenney, we’re giving away a set of these gorgeous Confetti Stemless Cocktail Glasses! To enter, just tell us what you’re doing with the person you love this Friday! Doesn’t have to be a boyfriend, girlfriend, husband, or wife. Could be plans with your best friend, your Mom, or your neighbor! Or even plans you have for yourself. Giveaway closes on Friday, February 14th at 5:00 PM EST.
- 2 oz London dry gin (I used Bombay Sapphire)
- ½ oz Campari
- ½ oz simple syrup
- ½ oz freshly-squeezed lime juice
- 3 cucumber slices, peel removed
- Muddle two of the cucumber slices in the bottom of a mixing glass. Add the rest of the liquid ingredients and shake over ice. Serve in a tall glass (Collins, if you have it) over ice, and garnish with the third cucumber slice.
